LUGRadio Mirror

I’ve finally resurrected my meeja.net domain by re-registering it with godaddy.com. Why didn’t I use gradwell.com, my regular registrar of over five years? Because godaddy also have some insanely cheap hosting — US$37/yr for 5GB of storage and 250GB of transfer a month. That’s riduculously cheap.

So what am I going to do with all that space? Well, so far I’m using around 2GB of that space to host a mirror site for LUGRadio, the Linux and FOSS podcast from four large gents from the Midlands. I’ve also written a saucy bit of bash to semi-automate the mirroring process, which, in the tradition of open source, I’m releasing under the GNU GPL.

Pleh.

  1. Cheers for the script neuro!
Currently using it to reroactively mirror all the episodes.
I’m new to bash scripting, but from what I’ve picked up, I reckon I could set yors up to run as a cron job on the day(s) of release, and it would keep checking for the new episode and update when it appears. Feel free to prod and ridicule me if I’m wrong! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. The problem with that is that Matt releases an ep for the mirror maintainers to pick up, but Aq only adds the episode details to the database for mirrors to register their copies later on; it’s not a static time each week, so until they can automate that process to a degree, we can’t automate our end.

I suppose you could watch Matt’s mirror RSS feed and do a download once that’s updated, but the registration part would likely have to remain manual unless Aq opened up a maintainer API so we could check what episodes can be reg’d ๐Ÿ™‚

Uh-oh, have i just committed Aq to write more code? ๐Ÿ™‚
