Urban myths and legends … I like trawling sites like snopes.com, reading about how Coke once had cocaine in it (it did), and how Finland banned Donald Duck because he wears no underwear (they didn’t) … snopes.com also carries loads of myths that have popped up in the wake of September 11th, and other sites have begun popping up with groundless and outlandish conspiracy theories about the attacks.

But it looks like a “did Flight 77 really crash into the Pentagon” story is gathering momentum … BBC News are now carrying a story about a book published in France alleging that no Boeing 757 crashed that day — the book, incidentally, is from the same people who brought you the Hunt the Boeing website (coincidence? … nah, surely not).

There’s more information about this particular emerging urban legend at about.com (I just wish about.com would kill those popups already), but there is a superb debunking of the notion by Paul Boutin and Patrick Di Justo — you should definitely read that hand in hand with the Hunt the Boeing site.
