I heard about the story of the obese Americans who are suing four major fast-food companies — McDonalds, Wendy’s, Burger King and Kentucky Fried Chicken — who they accuse of “knowingly serving meals that cause obesity and disease”. I mean, how bloody ridiculous can you get?
If I eat a raw steak every day of my life, I’ll eventually die — can I sue the butchers?
If I overeating fruit and vegetables, which are ostensibly “good for you”, I’ll end up spending months in the toilet — can I sue the farmers?
If I pour cooking fat over myself, and go and lie in the sun for a few hours, I’ll end up basting like a Sunday roast — can I sue the manufacturers of the cooking oil?
Not everything in the world carries a warning label, yet simple common sense should warn us when something is “bad” for us, be it in terms of short or long term effects.
The residents of the US should be thoroughly embarrassed by these ultra-litigious actions by some people who have made some bad lifestyle choices, and are looking for someone else to blame.
