I’m not that long back from the Big Day in the Park at Glasgow Green. It turned out to be an absolutely stomping day! I keeked my head out the curtains around 10am this (Sunday) morning to find glorious sunshine staring back at me, and I knew the day would stomp. Managed to miss The Distillers due to traffic, met up with wasterdom at McChuills on the High Street, managed to dump the car just round the corner from the High St car park at the station (pay for parking? bwahahah!), then stoated in to catch most of Electric Six’s gig — they weren’t too bad live, “Gay Bar” getting an appropriate level of crowd response, and they closed their act with the Queen classic, “Radio Ga Ga” — respect due!
Then followed PJ Harvey, a band I’ve been waiting to see live again for years after seeing Polly and the guys play live at T in the Park a long, long time ago. They trooped out the old favourites — “Man Sized”, “Water”, “50 Foot Queenie” — while bashing out some of their new tracks. In the middle of the set, Qif got on enough nerves for Jim to just lamp him one! They proceeded to the first aid tent, and from there to A&E at the Royal — seven stitches and about 4 hours later, he reappeared in time for the headline act!
Queens of the Stone Age, who Jim managed to miss most of, rocked hard, as did the Foo Fighters after them. The day was closed by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, an act that I really don’t give much for, so I wandered off with Gary at that point and got some beer :)
All in, a superb day — cracking weather, stomping tunes, cold beer, and violence amongst friends — fantastico ;)
