well the 30 gig drive with all my mp3s (about 23 gig worth) has died a death – it simply doesn’t power up any more – the bulk of it was either rips or audiogalaxy downloads. so i’ll need to replace that kinda soonish – there’s some good deals on 40 gig IBM deskstar 60gxp drives, so i’ll have a look at that next month. the main task now is to get back my other 30 gig with all my downloads and pre-having-a-big-server backups on it, so hopefully that will be less fecked.

the cause might have been a power surge, which has tripped something on the mp3 30 gig and killed the power, and screwed up the two drives on the other ide channel (neither 30 gig was mounted or detected by BIOS at the time, so I think the file store 30 gig will be ok, if i can get it running on any of my spare machines!), so we’re looking at cheap UPSes just now.

bah, i hate it when evil barges into the Technology Containment Zone :(

on a completely different note, the musical episode of Buffy the Vampire Slayer was on Sky One the other night, and it was absolutely superb :)
