Machine translation. The automatic process of feeding some text or a website in one language through a program, which then spits out the content in another language. Sounds great! Babelfish made it well-known and popular, Google improved on it a bit, but have a read of elfur’s blog, translated from Icelandic to English using Tranexp.com, and suddenly realise just how far we have to go in this field of computing … Also, I had to wonder two things — first, why ‘snuggle’ comes up so many times in the translation; and second, whether or not Marlene will be pissed or not at having her name translated to ‘Gray Mullet Bruce’ … something you’re not telling us, Marlene? :)
