After reading “UN decision day on Iraq” this morning on BBC News Online, I can feel hair bristling at the back of my neck. Key phrases: “moment of truth”, “reacted defiantly”, “very threatening”, “have only managed”, “final appeal” …
These two sentences scare me, however: ‘Saddam Hussein appeared prepared for war, warning that if Iraq is attacked the battle will be “wherever there is sky, land and water in the entire world.”
‘Iraqi Foreign Minister Naji Sabri told an Arabic television station that tens of thousands of Iraqi men and women were ready to be martyrs for any war against the “treacherous” American enemy.’
The question is, will Iraqi operatives working outwith the confines of Iraq itself be able to judge, know, or even care if they are targetting Americans, or merely those allied to America? I’m suddenly rather nervous about flying this evening …
