Charles Allen: “Mike, me old mucker, don’t worry about Carlton being the junior partner in this take-over, err merger. I tell you what, we’ll take half of your company’s identity and half of mine — can’t say fairer than that.”
Michael Green: “Go on.”
Allen: “Well from Carlton Television, we’ll take the word ‘Television’, and from Granada Television, the word ‘Granada’ to make ‘Granada Television’.”
Green: “But that’s already the name of your company.”
Allen (as if the thought has never occurred to him): “Well I never!”
